Things that made me laugh
  • "The Shining as performed by Bunnies" - and after you watch this, scroll down to watch "The Titanic" and "The Exorcist". I dare you to visit this site.
  • Eugene the Mirman - friends either think this is hilarious or deeply disturbing. You decide.
  • Peter Pan - voted weirdest website in the recent webbies. Fantastic Fashions!
  • Meet Sally and Johny at Black People Love Us! I won't explain. Just check this out. Along a similar lines is: Rent-a-Negro. You never know when you need to prove your creds.
  • Meet Wing, a Chinese-New Zealand singer. She's fabulous. Listen to her sing the Carpenters. You won't be disappointed.
  • Dolls that are so real life that they... pottypottybuttbutt (if you're uncomfortable with scatological references, avoid this one)
  • Anti-Valentine's Day Cards - too funny for just once a year
  • The vodka company, 42 below, has produced three ads. Check out the first one here: "Story of 42" and then click on the links to see the other two - "Gay" and "Britain." Do not miss these! I repeat. Do not miss these.
  • OK. There were like... a million spoofs on Brokeback Mountain. But this one is the best.

Oddities, Cool stuff, and Gift Ideas

Fun things to do

Friends - what would you do without 'em?

  • My pal, Tim, who has his own website (he and I work on the sexual racism sux stuff together), introduced me to the Friendster phenomenon. It's a way for your friends to meet my friends and so on and so forth. Six degrees of separation put into practice. It amuses me. If you log on, you can count me as one of your friends! Oh, Tim is also promoting a concept called 20,000 gay buddhas. I'll let the webpage explain all.
  • Kenny Campbell - my friend, webpage teacher, an incredible chef and an astounding magician
  • Steve Kluger is the author of the fabulous "Last Days of Summer", a playwright, politician and sweet guy. We connected through reading each other's books, and he was particularly kind to me when I got my first bad reviews!
  • My friend James Johnstone has started a research business if you've got an old home in Vancouver and want to know the history of it. Cool idea, huh? Home History Here
  • Keith Shaw is a fantastic photographer, and his photos of me grace all of my books. He's also taken a lovely family portrait for the Quans and if I ever get married, he'll be the wedding photographer of choice. Check out his website! Keith Shaw Photography
  • I thought you should see a photo of my friend Daniel Dolan who works at Green Thumb Theatre in Vancouver. Danny's a long and dear friend: Daniel (you have to scroll down to find him)
  • Once a year Rocky and Greig have a party to precede Sydney Mardi Gras. They call it the Dulwich Hill Mostly Gay and Slightly Lesbian Mardi Gras. It's a fun homepage and I'm in the photos of the 2002 party!
  • Mazz is an amazing photographer and local personality here in Sydney (she's purple!) and she's done what looks to be an amazing photographic record of Mardi Gras called "You and Mardi Gras". She's got great photos that capture the spirit of why I became involved in it. Check it out!
  • Kris Landherr is a buddy from the Gay Games (we wrestled against each other!) He's a talented musician and performer and all around nice guy. Pay him a visit!

Things to admire

  • Frank tells me that the article "Six Degrees of Lois Weisberg" is often talked about. Appearing in the New Yorker, it presents some very cool theories about "superconnectors", "the strength of weak ties", and "chain lengths." The most helpful people you know may be those who know the most people. Because of this article, I read The Tipping Point, a book about social epidemics and much more, which I loved. And the author of both the article and the book, Malcolm Gladwell, writes thought-provoking, fantastic articles. Check him out at his own website.
  • Treatment Action Campaign, South Africa - a dedicated group of activists who are changing the world and making HIV/AIDS drugs more accessible for people living with HIV/AIDS. And a good primer on what this issue is about.
  • Google search engine - if you're not using this, you should be. Save yourself some time.
  • Not sure if it was my friend Daniel Mittler or my friend Derek Hall who introduced me to the writings of George Monbiot, a columnist for The Guardian, who writes about contemporary politics from a progressive viewpoint. Certainly worth a look.
  • Salon: OK. I haven't gotten a subscription to them, even though I read it constantly. Bad, Andy. But they have the best movie reviews anywhere, and lots of other good stuff.
  • Rob Brezsny's Free Will Astrology Newsletter - subscribe here or read on-line are the most amazing horoscopes you'll ever read. Inspiring and creative, they ask you to reach over to joy, grab it, and make it your own. Often for me, his weekly predictions are spookily correct.
  • I loved the musical Avenue Q on Broadway. I really did.
  • I think the Sony Bravia Ad with the bouncing balls is really beautiful - and Jose Gonsalez's song Heartbeats. Play the extended version if you have time!
