On-line magazines and
writing websites
- The Velvet Mafia is a sharp, cool queer e-zine. Their
last edition published lots of my pals. Check it
out. They nicely listed me on their links page
without me having to ask!
- Suspect Thoughts - another innovative queer e-zine of
good writing. Check them out!
- Word it Out!
is an online journal for gay, lesbian and queer
liberation with articles, reviews and commentary
- it's based out of Sydney.
- AsianCanadian.net
is a new site promoting
Asian Canadian arts and culture. They've got a
link to my site under their Writers section.
- PERIL is an on-line
Asian-Australian journal "designed to build
a critical mass of Asian-Australian art and
cultural concerns". Their first edition was
on "Nerds" and I've got an essay in it!
Andy writing links
- When you google me, one of the top
ten listings is now my Wikipedia listing. Which I got a friend to put up for me
mainly as a reference to my writing...
- My author profile at Q*INK - the LGBT writer's network - I
encourage my writer friends to get their own
profiles up - and subscribe to their very useful
newsletter.
- My author profile at Shergood Forest - "Art, Literature &
Entertainment for Gay Men", it's a great
resource centre. Have a look. If you're a gay
author, get yourself a bio up!
- My author profile at BC Bookworld,
an author bank of writers from or living in
British Columbia, Canada
- Practising Sexualities is a 1998 publication on queer theory
in Japanese! Ed. Kazama Takashi, J. Keith Vincent
& Kawaguchi Kazuya. The activist group OCCUR
pushed this project forward and they've included
my master's thesis on ILGA and the international
lesbian and gay movement. If you can read
Japanese, have a look....
Books I've read
- Just as a whimsical thing, this is
a list I've been keeping of books I've read...
Andy's writer friends
- My pal George Ilsley,
who has just had published the fabulous "Manbug",
has an amazing website. This one is slick!
- Now, I wasn't sure whether to put
these links up on the general links section or on
the writing links section but I know these
friends primarily through writing, and if you're
here on this page, I hope you'll get to know them
too. First off, my pal Marshall Moore,
author of Concrete Sky, other novels in the works,
and many short stories - we've somehow ended up
side by side in a few different anthologies.
- Jim Gladstone,
I met at the same time I met Marshall. He wrote
the Big Book of Misunderstanding, and I
understand he's got more new stuff in the works.
- One of my first reviews ever was
from Jameson Currier,
a talented writer of short stories and erotica,
and a novel. It was great to finally meet him at
the Lambda Awards in New York a few years ago.
Pay him a visit.
- Ian Young is
probably Canada's first important gay poet. He
kindly sent me one of his books while I was at
university and I had the privilege of getting to
know him a little. He now sells books too!
- Steve Kluger
is a friend I got to know by e-mail and then
finally met in San Francisco in 2005. He wrote
the wonderful "Last Days of Summer" and
has latest novel is "Almost like being in
love."
- Mitch Cullin
is a friend I've never met. His book "Tideland"
has been made into a movie. He's written a ton of
books - the last one which I've seen great
reviews for all over the place.
Real actual physical
magazines that you can touch
- The Loop Magazine from Vancouver did a fantastic Pride
Cover photo of me (courtesy of David Ellingsen)
- if the photo is not still up, check the covers archive.
- Trade Magazine did a review of Slant a while back. My
brother and I were VERY impressed with the issue
- sharp, interesting and substantial
interrogations into QUEER THINGS.
- RicePaper is a magazine that
promotes Asian Canadian arts and culture. They're
closely linked the Asian Canadian Writer's
Workshop. It was through their writing contests
that my manuscripts found their way to Harbour
and New Star.
